Целью настоящей публикации является введение в научный оборот сведений о жизни и службе командира 33-го егерского полка  полковника Семена Никитича Старова (1788 или 1779 [не позднее 28 марта] — 1856), противника Пушкина на дуэли, состоявшейся в Кишиневе 6 января 1822 года. Эти сведения почерпнуты в архивных документах, связанных с выходом С. Н. Старова в отставку в 1834 году (РГВИА, ф. 395, оп. 23, д. 474).

TOWARD THE BIOGRAPHY OF COLONEL SEMYON STAROV

The purpose of this publication is to introduce into scholarly discourse information about the life and service of Semyon Nikitich Starov (1788 or 1779 [no later than March 28] — 1856). Starov was a colonel, the commander of the 33rd Jaeger Regiment, and he was Pushkin’s opponent in the duel that took place in Kishinev on January 6, 1822. Information about Starov is taken from archival documents related to Starov’s retirement in 1834: these documents have been kept in the Russian State Military Historical Archive (RSMHA, fund 95, inventory 23, case 474).
