The journal conducts open double-blind peer review (meaning that the author is known to the reviewer and the reviewer is known to the author) of all materials submitted to the editorial office that correspond to the journal’s subject area and manuscript requirements, for the purpose of expert evaluation. All reviewers are recognised experts in the subject matter of the materials being reviewed and have published articles on the subject matter of the reviewed article within the last 3 years. Reviews are stored by the editorial office for 5 years.

Criteria for evaluating materials by the reviewer:

  • novelty of the research question;
  • completeness of the material used for the research;
  • the author’s mastery of the necessary theoretical and methodological context;
  • the degree of reasoning in the author’s arguments;
  • the logic of the sequence of presentation and the language of the research.

Review procedure

Submitted materials are evaluated by the editorial board for compliance with the journal’s subject matter and formatting requirements. Each manuscript is reviewed by a member of the editorial board and another specialist (external expert) with the necessary competence and experience. Reviews are conducted in accordance with the journal’s editorial ethics principles.

Regardless of the general nature of the review, it should be written in a friendly tone and, if possible, contain advice to the author on how to improve the research. After receiving the reviews, the editorial board decides whether to publish the manuscript in the journal or whether additional expert opinions are required.

The decision on the results of the review, whether to accept the article for publication, send it back to the author for revision, or reject it, is made by the editors-in-chief in consultation with the members of the editorial board.

The editorial board sends copies of the reviews or a reasoned rejection to the authors of the submitted materials and undertakes to send copies of the reviews to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation upon receipt of a corresponding request by the editorial board.
