Редкий текст «Сказания о Мамаевом побоище», изданный Н. Г. Головиным в 1835 г. и игнорируемый учеными в течение двух столетий, может принадлежать самой ранней из известных редакций «Сказания». Подробное сравнение текстов доказывает первичность головинской редакции по отношению к текстам так называемой «Основной редакции». Ряд «новых» параллелей с формулировками «Слова о полку Игореве» отражает близость произведения к устно-эпической традиции XII—XIII вв. и бросает свет на историю всех памятников Куликовского цикла.

Trimmer of Tales? The Basic Redaction of The Tale of the Great Battle with Mamai

This article argues that the rare version of The Tale of the Great Battle with Mamai that was published by Nikolai G. Golovin in 1835 belongs to the earliest known redaction of that narrative. This old publication, however, was ignored by scholars for two centuries. A careful comparison shows the primacy of the Golovin redaction in relation to the texts of the so-called basic redaction. A number of newly revealed parallel formulations in the Golovin text and The Tale of Igor’s Campaign indicate that the Golovin redaction is closer to the epic tradition of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries than those texts. Moreover, these parallels cast light on the history of all the texts of the Kulikovo cycle.
