Since 1934, the Institute of Russian Literature (Pushkinskij Dom) of the Russian Academy of Sciences has been publishing «Proceedings of the Department of Old Russian Literature» («Trudy Otdela drevnerusskoj literatury»). This annual serial publication was conceived immediately after the creation of the Department of Old Russian Literature. Academician Alexander S. Orlov, Corresponding Member Varvara P. Adrianova-Peretz, Academician Dmitrii S. Likhachev and Natalia V. Ponyrko, Doctor of Philology, were the editors-in-chief of the publication. Currently, the journal’s editorial board includes students and colleagues of Dmitrii S. Likhachev. Svetlana A. Semyachko, Doctor of Philology, head of the Department of Old Russian Literature, is the editor-in-chief.
Each entry focuses on a comprehensive approach to the study of Russian medieval literature. The journal publishes articles representing textual and source studies of Old Russian texts and articles by scholars from related fields. The objects of study are the history of Old Rus’, the poetics and hermeneutics of Russian texts, and their connection with folklore. The individual articles are devoted to the codicology and paleography problems of old Russian manuscripts, old Russian icons and music.
The journal publishes newly discovered written monuments, reviews and descriptions of various manuscript collections, and bibliographic reviews. The journal’s sections show the authors’ attention to various genres: hagiography, hymnography, epideictics, chronicle writing, chronography, and statutory works. Some articles are devoted to the study of monastic culture and libraries and Old Believers’ culture. In recent years, the section ‘According to archival repositories’ has been resumed, in which finds from the Pushkinskii Dom archeological expeditions are published.
This publication has high scientific authority and unites scientists from various scientific institutions engaged in the history and culture of Old Rus’.
The journal is published annually. It accepts articles in Russian for publication. No fee is charged for publication in the journal or for access to the full-text version of the journal.
