The article is devoted to the analysis of two works of the epistolary genre, in which the authors described the miraculous healing of the maiden Azanchevskaya by St. Mitrophan of Voronezh in 1834. The first letter, spanning 23 pages, is a copy of the letter of Generaless Efimovich to the landowner M. N. Semichev, which details the circumstances of the three-day healing of the girl by Mitrophan of Voronezh on 10—12 August at the Preobrazhensky estate in Smolensk province. The saint restored her ability to walk, restored her sight and healed an open wound on her chest. The author of the letter was a direct witness to these events. The final healing, according to the text, the demon- possessed maiden received from the Mother of God on the feast of the Protection of the Holy Virgin. In her narrative, the Generaless strove for factual accuracy and paid attention to the reactions of those present at the miracle (from anxiety, confusion, fear to surprise, joy and jubilation). The second letter about Azanchevskaya’s cure is a copy made from a brief (2 pages) account by an anonymous person who was not an eyewitness to the events. This author belonged to a different social environment (probably, he was either a petty official, one of the clerics, or a servant in the house), wrote with grammatical errors, and knew about the events from rumors. In the anonymous text, one can read the story only about the last day of the miracles — 1 October 1834, and Saint Mitrophan is mentioned only as the tutor of the girl healed by the Mother of God. The letter shows a tendency towards the traditional motifs of tales of miracles (the bringing of icons from the temple; church singing heard in the house; footprints left by the Virgin Mary in the room). The two stories about one miracle differ from each other in volume, content and style. Dedicated to one event, they allow us to see how the traditional genre forms changed in the New Age and what the role of the personal beginning is in the stylistic features of the work.
